What are we all about?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or BJJ, is a martial art that truly delivers as advertised. BJJ stresses and utilizes leverage and positioning allowing a smaller or weaker practitioner to defend themselves against a larger and stronger opponent. BJJ doesn’t rely on striking or kicking opponents, but rather focuses on controlling and subduing violent assailants through the applications of pins and control holds.

Enter Blue Gorilla Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Blue Gorilla BJJ is Radford, Virginia’s premier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

Founded in 2024, sprouting from the roots of Team Mannon BJJ, Blue Gorilla set out to bring the benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to people looking to gain self-confidence, learn self-defense, and find a fun and practical way to get or stay in physical shape.

Moreover, Blue Gorilla has a vibrant kid’s program that has been tested and proven to be fun, efficient, and quite literally life changing for students that enroll in the program.

At Blue Gorilla BJJ, we take instruction and safety seriously. All of our continual instructors are either current or former members of law enforcement or the United States military. Further, all instructors have undergone strenuous background checks, have been trained in emergency first aid and CPR, and have been vetted to work with children.

We really want this to be a family affair that brings parents, children, and siblings closer together. As well as an opportunity for people to find a new passion and a sense of being part of a team.
